Service Summary
Audiometric booth qualification verifies that the acoustic environment inside a sound-treated room or prefabricated booth meets the maximum permissible ambient noise levels defined by ANSI S3.1 for the hearing thresholds being tested. Medology performs in-situ measurement using calibrated sound level meters and reference microphones, issuing qualification reports that document compliance with ANSI S3.1 Table 1.
Why It Matters
A booth that fails ANSI S3.1 criteria introduces masking noise that artificially elevates measured thresholds — producing false hearing loss findings.

Service Workflow
Pre-Visit Site Assessment
Facility provides booth specifications, construction date, and any recent structural changes. Technician reviews HVAC and mechanical noise sources.
Calibrated Microphone Placement
Calibrated reference microphone placed at the test position (ANSI S3.1 specified location) in the occupied booth configuration.
Octave-Band Noise Measurement
Ambient noise levels measured in each ANSI S3.1 octave band (125 Hz – 8 kHz) under worst-case conditions: HVAC on, doors closed, clinical activity simulated.
Qualification Report Issuance
Measured levels compared against ANSI S3.1 Table 1 limits for the applicable test conditions (ears covered / uncovered). Report issued same day.
